First of May today, and first real spring day, with warm sunshine, clear sky and chaffinch singing in the tree. Chaffinch for me is the real beginner of summer. Its song reminds me of summer mornings as a kid, full of expectation of the fun, warm day ahead, biking and swimming and being free.
The first day in May and it's eve are days, when almost everyone celebrates in Finland. Workers stood up to their rights and celebrate that, students used to get their hats at first of May and wear them through the summer. Nowadays it's all about having fun with friends, eating, drinking champagne. Our brunch today was graced with an amazing weather, which is something we don't take for granted here. We still have a bit of snow left in the shade, but I definitely feel the summer is coming.
My first ever try on making cupcakes and it was a success, they are just delicious. I used quark in the batter and I think that made the cakes very soft and just enough moist. Other brunch members included potato salad (home made german version), green salad, farmers salad with tuna, hummus with bread, bread with mushroom paste, bread with chevre filling, bratwursts, and champagne. For dessert, cup cakes, buns, coffee, bisquits and champagne. Luckily we remembered to drink some water once in a while, because it was very warm in the sun. The brunch ended, when we noticed we had sat outside eating and chatting for almost eight hours. It was a good day!
